2007 Football Season
And it has arrived. Brand spanking new regular football season. Shiny and bright, like the highly polished blue of NY’s helmets. I’m even more excited for this season a than I was for last year’s, and I’m attributing that to the months of anticipation coupled with 1st round playoff elimination, and my own lack of knowledge in anything football. The lack of football knowledge is returning this year, but at least I can say this is my second season of football love.
I was extra excited to leave for work today, knowing that once my good-morning-hellos were distributed and a nice cup of tea brewing, I’d be opening IE7 and instantly browsing ESPN.com for football news. The Colts played last night, how did they do against the Saints? My excitement mounts as I steer toward the NFL page on ESPN and land a face full of pictures, scoreboards, tickers and headlines. Oh my God! NFL Preview?!?! Should I read about the Secrets of the Game? I am a new, although returning, fan. Maybe I should get a little Secrets of the Game education. I have a feeling that books like Football Physics, Joe Theismann’s Football for Idiots, Simms to McConkey may not give me the thorough schooling that ESPN will (I am a girl lacking the testosterone necessary to be born with football knowledge cursing through my blood upon birth). I slowly run my cursor over all the articles, turning links red as I try to decide just which story I want to read first. The Colts 31-point second half? Brady resting his arm? Giants/Strahan/Cowboys? Should I just dive head first into the 2007 NFL line up with the Sports Guy’s Preview Part I, and immediately follow up with Part II? Yes.
I’m so excited, I printed off a binder full of stats and info on every player on the Giant’s 40-man active roster. I want to know everything about the Giants this year. I refuse to be a dumb girl watching the game and cheering when my boyfriend cheers. I want to names, weaknesses, strengths, plays, needs, roles and the whys of every player and game. Since the Mariner’s imploded (again) and the Yankees sucked the passion from my baseball bubble, I have nothing to fall back on except Big Blue. Thank God for Football.
